Laurie Black

Singer, songwriter and “cabaret queen” (EdFest Mag), Laurie Black is a force to be reckoned with. Armed with a synthesiser and a drum machine, she has forged award-winning shows including Space Cadette (a solo sci fi synthrock offering), Hypernova (a live band cabaret spectacular) and Bad Luck Cabaret (a badass alternative variety show). To date she has released three albums and an EP that can be found on all good streaming sites, and has recently started a band called S!LENCE in her current home-town of Glasgow.
Raised in London, Laurie has spent many years touring the Fringe Festivals of planet Earth with Spiegeltents and cabaret shows including time at Perth Fringe, Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Brighton Fringe, Reykjavik Fringe and of course Edinburgh Festival Fringe where it all began. (She used to sneak into late night 18+ cabaret shows at 14 years old.)
Passionate about girls to the front, believing in yourself and kicking it in the dick, Laurie’s hilarious blend of musical comedy and killer synthrock is pretty unique. She regularly hosts/compères cabaret shows as well as performing sets of her musical comedy originals and quirky covers. She has compèred the legendary La Clique and Neon Moon Cabaret and in 2017 played live musical accompaniment to Sweatshop by the acclaimed Briefs Factory at Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
A classically trained pianist, Laurie also plays keys and/or synths with many musicians including The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing and Anya Anastasia (Rogue Romantic) and has been featured playing on tracks by The Asuras, Marc Burrows and David Ryder Prangley. Some of her most noted support slots include opening for Voltaire and Rachel Stamp.
Laurie loves a good Friday 13th and likes to release new material on these special days so keep your eyes peeled…
